Black Hills High School Concert Choir

The BHHS Concert Choir is a non-auditioned mixed ensemble that performs beginning to intermediate choral music representing a variety of historical periods and cultures. Additionally, singers have the opportunity to perform jazz and musical theatre and are encouraged (although not required) to develop their solo performance skills. Members of the choir learn the basic concepts of tone production, breath management, and general artistic techniques that are applicable to all types of vocal music. Additionally, the choir learns basic music theory and history as well as sight-singing techniques. The Concert Choir performs at concerts, festivals, and community events and will participate in the BHHS Music Department Disneyland tour this year. Members of the choir have the opportunity to audition for the WMEA All-State and All-Northwest choirs and are eligible to compete at the district solo competition. Participants in Concert Choir are encouraged to participate in the choir for the entire year, although this is not mandatory. Grading is based on daily participation, concert attendance, and test scores.

The BHHS Chamber Choir is an auditioned mixed ensemble that performs intermediate to advanced choral music representing a variety of historical periods and cultures. Additionally, singers have the opportunity to perform jazz and musical theatre and are encouraged (although not required) to develop their solo performance skills. Members of the choir continue to work on tone production and breath management, in addition to focusing on a higher level of artistic expression within the music that is performed. Additionally, the Chamber Choir continues to learn music theory and history and improve upon their musical literacy and fluency. The Chamber Choir performs at concerts, festivals, and community events and will participate in the BHHS Music Department Disneyland tour this year. Members of the choir are encouraged to audition for the WMEA All-State and All-Northwest choirs and are also eligible to participate in the district solo competition. Year-round participation in Chamber Choir is mandatory and grading is based on daily participation, concert attendance, and test scores.
