Andrew Landowski, Band Director

Andrew Landowski is a Tumwater, WA native and is a 2008 graduate of Washington State University (Summa Cum Laude) where he received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, a Mathematics Endorsement, and a Minor in Jazz Studies. He is a jazz and classical saxophonist and has performed in seven collegiate ensembles, conducted five community musicals, and led the Washington State University Cougar Marching Band as Drum Major from 2004 - 2008.

Kathleen Alviar, Choir Director

Kathleen Alviar was born and raised in Hoquiam, WA and is a 1996 graduate of Eastern Washington University (Magna Cum Laude) where she received a Bachelor’s degree in music education. She has taught high school choral music for eleven years, and is currently the choir director at Black Hills High School in Tumwater. Prior to teaching at Black Hills, Kathleen taught at Hermiston High School in Oregon, where she directed four choirs and taught music theory and history, drama, and audio technology. Under her direction, the Hermiston H.S. choirs consistently qualified for the Oregon State Choral Competition and had many students qualify for the state solo competition and All-State and All-Northwest Choirs. Kathleen also served as the regional chair for the Oregon Music Educator’s Association and was a member of the OMEA state board, where she participated in the organization of state conferences and festivals.

In addition to her work with high school students, for five years Kathleen directed the adult and children’s choirs at Lincoln Heights United Church of Christ in Spokane as well as a men’s choir at the Two Rivers Correctional Institute in Umatilla, Oregon. Kathleen is currently completing her Master’s Degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Washington, after which she will continue teaching high school.

Kathleen and her husband James (also a teacher and musician) have been married for twelve years and have two daughters, Sophia (8) and Claire (5).
